Tons of virgin waste > Not wasted
/ Swapping the habital order of things
A fourth, maybe half, maybe more, of all kitchens mounted in new-buildt apartments in Copenhagen, are demounted and sent away as waste before the first apartment owner even moves in. Not even a sandwich has been prepared on the countertop, before it all gets demolished and loaded on a truck as waste. Virgin material turned directly to waste. Human ressources and craftmanship – also wasted. The reason? To meet the building code and get approval for the building as a whole. Efficiently.
Depeche is the minimal physical manifestation of the building code’s demands for a kitchen – with which the developer can get their approvals on time. It is a nomadic sculpture of readymades, moving from newbuild to newbuild, ensuring all owners time to decide and install the kitchen they dream of.
The project is under development with a wide range of collaborators, and is therefore illustrated a bit secretively for the time being.
