Studio-
Spolia is a term that describes an ancient and widespread practice of repurposing stone. Stripping it from an old structure, and giving it at new purpose elsewhere. Spolia Studio sets out to recall this organic way of appreciating material.
The studio works artistically across genre and scale, repurposing places, spaces and matter. By name, committing to take every project, with all participants, as far into the logic of circularity as possible.
The projects aim to achieve on-site circulation of stripped material, and reuse of the loadbearing structures (often) already there. On the matter of repurposing material: searching for results that in the end will make us connect beauty with sustainability. Only.

Spolia Studio is founded and directed by the experienced architect Trude Mardal. She founded Spolia Studio on 16 years of experience from a renowned Copenhagen architecture firm – the latter six years as partner.
Through Spolia Studio she works for circularity, with a network-based method, collaborating across the entire value chain of the building industry: Other architects, landscape architects, engineers as well as demolishers, developers, contractors, craftsmen and artists are assembled on teams that are tailored for the specific task at hand.
The studio's approach to architecture always revolves around finding and maintaining a strong character - working for the projects clear identity, all the way from idea to completed work of art. With the strong interest in repurposing places, spaces and matter, comes a strong belief in 'fruitful sustainability' - the kind that is reproductive, that is a sensed part of the built space and thereby something that make us wonder, and consider, and each time slightly change position towards appreciating the value of any material already here.
